A station that began with a chair
According to the café ledger, the station began when three customers disagreed about the right song for the evening. A fourth suggested listening to a song first, then resuming the disagreement. A corner was assigned to the microphone, a chair to the announcer, and a drawer to reports beginning “I am not complaining, but…” From this corner, 3al Qahwa broadcasts.
A schedule that hurries nobody
The library contains 20 songs by 7 singers, 20 matching introductions and 8 bulletins: approximately 76 minutes, 19 seconds in total. Songs shuffle without repeating until the catalogue has cycled, and each plays after its own introduction. Bulletins can be switched off in the player. This is a shuffled radio programme, not a live transmission of an ongoing event.
From the window to the last tram
The station follows everything that happens in a café: tea and mint, weather, newspapers, football, bills, dominoes and backgammon, and chairs reserved by their owners’ coats. Each artist has a private logic, but all agree that the listener should find a place in the story.
Production and the character world
3al Qahwa is a narrative music project from the world of Tawla. Its artists, biographies, dates, quotations and archive incidents are invented; they do not document real people or historical concerts. Songs were generated through Mureka and ElevenLabs Music, and introductions and bulletins through ElevenLabs, in October 2026. Portraits depict generated characters; the logo was generated and prepared for this website. The style evokes vintage Egyptian broadcasts and concerts; these are not archival recordings from the 1950s or 1960s.
Listening and use
Audio retains an old-radio character: mono, compact and deliberately modest in fidelity. Opening a page does not download the audio files; they are requested when playback starts. These recordings are not public-domain music, and this site does not grant a general redistribution licence. Press-room materials are prepared for promotion of the project; other uses should be referred to the project owner.
